Addzest DMZ815MP

8 October 2026

The Addzest DMZ815MP is a double-DIN centre unit with CD and MiniDisc transports, MP3 decoding and an FM/AM tuner. Addzest was Clarion's domestic Japanese brand. The manual cover describes it as CD/MP3/MD/AV/TEL-LINKコントロール、DSP/EQ内蔵AM/FMチューナー付 CD/MDデッキアンプ, and states that the same manual covers operation of the CD and MD changers and the TV tuner the unit controls.

The disc section is reached through a motorised slope console. The manual documents the console opening fully before either transport ejects, and its angle being set by holding the relevant eject button. The CD transport reads CD and CD-R/RW media and decodes MP3 to MPEG-1 Audio Layer-3, at sampling rates of 44.1 and 48 kHz. Bit rates run 32 -> 320 kbps at 44.1 kHz and 32 -> 256 kbps at 48 kHz, variable bit rate included. Disc structure is read as CD-ROM mode 1 or mode 2 form 1 with automatic detection, in ISO9660 level 1 and level 2, across eight folder levels. The unit holds up to 255 folders and files combined, with folders limited to 150, and displays 16 characters of folder and file name.

Both transports are quoted at 100 dB signal-to-noise with 92 dB dynamic range and 0.015 percent distortion. Frequency response is 5 Hz -> 20 kHz within plus or minus 1 dB for the CD section and 20 Hz -> 20 kHz within plus or minus 2 dB for the MiniDisc section. The manual does not list MDLP support.

The DSP and equaliser section is specified separately in each conversion direction. Analogue to digital conversion is 20-bit at 64 times oversampling delta-sigma. Digital to analogue conversion is 24-bit at 128 times oversampling using what the manual names an advanced multi-bit delta-sigma stage. Processing is then divided into two operating modes selected by the AC-P control. STD provides D.S.F with five factory settings alongside a seven-band graphic equaliser carrying six factory and six user curves. PRO replaces that with V.S.E and a parametric equaliser, each offering six factory and six user settings.

Output is rated at 18W x 4 across 20 Hz -> 20 kHz at 1 percent into 4 ohms, with a maximum of 50W x 4 to JEITA. Line out is quoted at 4V measured from CD at 1 kHz, the highest line output level recorded in this archive. Current draw is 3.0A at 1W output behind a 15A fuse.

System functions documented include CeNET wiring for external CD and MD changers and an AUX input unit, TV tuner control with stereo and mono selection and MAIN and SUB switching, a telephone mode with calls started and ended from the fascia, title entry and deletion for radio and TV station names and for disc titles, and an ISR control recalling a stored station from any mode, set by default to the 1620 kHz traffic information frequency. The display carries a Laser Sound Graph with selectable laser patterns, a switchable backlight and a screen saver. A remote receiver is fitted, though no remote control appears in the supplied parts list.
