Sony WX-7700MDXSony WX-7700MDX

The Sony WX-7700MDX is a double-DIN receiver with CD and MiniDisc transports and an FM/AM tuner, described on the fascia as a Multi Control Audio Master. Dimensions are approximately 178 x 100 x 194 mm against a mounting size of approximately 178 x 100 x 165 mm, with a mass of approximately 3.0 kg. That depth and mass make it the largest unit recorded in this archive.

An important qualification applies to the tuner figures below. The manual available for this model is the export edition, which specifies FM at 87.5 -> 108.0 MHz and AM at 531 -> 1,602 kHz. A Japanese domestic unit covers the Japanese FM band instead. Tuner sensitivity, selectivity and separation figures from the export manual have therefore been omitted rather than applied to a domestic unit, and the tuner row records the band question directly. All other entries below are common to the model.

Both transports are specified together as a single CD/MD player section, quoted at 95 dB signal-to-noise across 10 -> 20,000 Hz with wow and flutter below measurable limits. The MiniDisc side supports MDLP, and the manual notes that track names from an MDLP disc display either from the internal transport or from an optional MD changer with the MDLP function. CD TEXT is supported.

Sound processing runs through EQ7, a listening position selector, and DSO, which the manual names as the Dynamic Soundstage Organizer. Outputs comprise front and rear audio outputs, a mono subwoofer output, a power aerial relay control terminal and a power amplifier control terminal. Inputs comprise an AUX input, BUS control and BUS audio inputs, a telephone attenuator control and an illumination control terminal.

The unit heads a Sony BUS system. Listed optional equipment includes the CDX-656X ten-disc CD changer, the CDX-T69X six-disc CD changer, the MDX-66XLP six-disc MD changer, the MGS-X1 Memory Stick system-up player and the XA-C30 source selector, connected by RC-61 or RC-62 BUS cables. An RM-X110 card remote commander is supplied, and an RM-X6S rotary commander is listed as an option. The manual states that the unit cannot be connected to a digital preamplifier or an equaliser.
