Kenwood DPX-9200WMP

The Kenwood DPX-9200WMP is a double-DIN receiver with CD and MiniDisc transports and an FM/AM tuner. The manual titles it MP3/WMA対応デュアルサイズCD/MDレシーバー and covers two models, the DPX-9200WMP and the DPX-8200WMP, under publication number B64-2209-10. Two entries in the specification differ between them and are noted below.

The CD transport reads CD and CD-R/RW media and decodes MP3 to MPEG-1, MPEG-2 and MPEG-2.5 Audio Layer-3, and WMA to the Windows Media Audio standard. It runs at 400 -> 1000 rpm under constant linear velocity at double speed. The MiniDisc transport supports MDLP and runs at 400 -> 900 rpm. Both use a GaAlAs laser diode at 780 nm with a 1-bit digital-to-analogue converter and eight times oversampling.

The two models are separated by their conversion and equalisation. The DPX-9200WMP uses third-order delta-sigma converters at 20-bit resolution with 128 times oversampling, against 18-bit on the DPX-8200WMP. Its equaliser has nine bands, centred at 60, 120, 250, 500 Hz and 1, 2, 4, 8 and 16 kHz, where the DPX-8200WMP has seven, centred at 60, 160, 400 Hz and 1, 2, 6 and 16 kHz. Both adjust across plus or minus 12 dB in six steps.

An auxiliary input is provided, specified at 20 Hz -> 20 kHz within plus or minus 1 dB, accepting a maximum of 1.5V into an impedance of 68 kohm or more. The pre-out delivers 1.8V into 10 kohm with an output impedance of 600 ohm or less. A remote control and a CR2025 cell are listed among the supplied parts alongside the power harness and mounting hardware.

The CD section's quoted signal-to-noise ratio of 105 dB is the highest of any transport in this archive, and exceeds the MiniDisc section in the same chassis by 15 dB.
