Kenwood DPX-6100МD
24 September 2026

The Kenwood DPX-6100MD is a double-DIN receiver with MiniDisc and CD transports and an FM/AM tuner. The manual carries publication number B64-1719-20. Note that the archive handle for this entry reads DPX-6100; the model designation is DPX-6100MD.
Both transports use a GaAlAs double-hetero laser diode at 780 nm with an eight times oversampling digital filter and a 1-bit digital-to-analogue converter. The MiniDisc mechanism runs at 400 -> 900 rpm under constant linear velocity and the CD mechanism at 200 -> 500 rpm. Wow and flutter on both is quoted as below measurable limits.
The MiniDisc section is quoted at 0.005 percent distortion at 1 kHz against 0.01 percent for the CD section. The CD section returns the higher signal-to-noise and dynamic range, both at 93 dB, against 90 dB for the MiniDisc section. Stereo separation is 85 dB on both.
The DSP and equaliser section uses third-order delta-sigma converters in both directions at 18-bit resolution with 128 times oversampling. This is the only 18-bit converter section recorded in this archive; the comparable Kenwood units use either 20-bit third-order converters or the fourth-order Enhanced Dual Bit arrangement. The equaliser provides nine bands centred at 60, 160, 400 Hz and 1, 2, 6 and 16 kHz, which the specification lists as seven values, across an adjustment range of plus or minus 12 dB.
Output is rated at 29W x 4 into 4 ohms at 1 kHz and 10 percent THD with a maximum of 47W x 4, and the pre-out delivers 1500 mV into 10 kohm with an output impedance of 600 ohm or less. Supplied parts cover the power harness and mounting hardware, with no remote control listed.
