Kenwood DPX-6000MD

The Kenwood DPX-6000MD is a double-DIN receiver with MiniDisc and CD transports and an FM/AM tuner. Kenwood's designation on the manual cover is デュアルサイズMD/CDレシーバー. The manual carries publication number B64-1474-00.

Both transports use a GaAlAs double-hetero laser diode at 780 nm with an eight times oversampling digital filter and a 1-bit digital-to-analogue converter. The MiniDisc mechanism runs at 900 -> 400 rpm under constant linear velocity and the CD mechanism at 500 -> 200 rpm. Wow and flutter on both is quoted as below measurable limits.

Both sections are quoted at 0.01 percent distortion at 1 kHz. The CD section returns 93 dB signal-to-noise and 93 dB dynamic range with 85 dB channel separation, and the MiniDisc section 90 dB on the first two counts with 80 dB channel separation.

Sound adjustment is a two-band tone control, at 100 Hz and 10 kHz, each across plus or minus 10 dB. There is no multi-band equaliser and no DSP section in this specification, which separates it from the DPX-510 and DPX-910MD of the same era.

Output is rated at 21W x 4 into 4 ohms at 1 kHz and 10 percent THD, with a maximum of 35W x 4. These are the lowest output figures recorded in this archive. The pre-out is quoted at 1500 mV into 10 kohm with an output impedance of 600 ohm or less, a higher pre-out level than the later DPX models. Supplied parts cover the power harness and mounting hardware, with no remote control listed.
