Kenwood DPX-5300M

The Kenwood DPX-5300M is a double-DIN receiver with CD and MiniDisc transports and an FM/AM tuner. The manual carries publication number B64-2455-00.

Both transports use a GaAlAs laser diode at 780 nm feeding a 1-bit digital-to-analogue converter with an eight times oversampling digital filter. The CD mechanism runs at 500 -> 200 rpm under constant linear velocity, the MiniDisc mechanism at 400 -> 900 rpm. Wow and flutter on both is quoted as below measurable limits.

As with the other Kenwood MD receivers in this archive, the MiniDisc section measures lower distortion than the CD section beside it: 0.005 percent against 0.01 percent, both at 1 kHz. The CD section returns the higher signal-to-noise ratio and dynamic range, at 93 dB against the MiniDisc section's 90 dB.

Output is rated at 29W x 4 into 4 ohms at 1 kHz and 10 percent THD, with a maximum of 47W x 4, and the pre-out delivers 1.5V into 10 kohm with an output impedance of 600 ohm or less. These match the DPX-5021M and the DPX-6021M. At 2.2 kg the DPX-5300M is the lightest of that group.
