Kenwood DPX-5021M

The Kenwood DPX-5021M is a double-DIN receiver with MiniDisc and CD transports and an FM/AM tuner. The manual carries publication number B64-1939-00.

Both transports use a GaAlAs laser diode at 780 nm. The MiniDisc mechanism runs at 400 -> 900 rpm under constant linear velocity and the CD mechanism at 500 -> 200 rpm, the CD section feeding a 1-bit digital-to-analogue converter with eight times oversampling. Wow and flutter on both is quoted as below measurable limits.

The MiniDisc section is specified at 0.005 percent total harmonic distortion at 1 kHz, against 0.01 percent for the CD section in the same chassis. This ordering, with the MiniDisc transport measuring lower distortion than the CD transport beside it, recurs across the Kenwood MD models in this archive.

Output is rated at 29W x 4 into 4 ohms at 1 kHz and 10 percent THD, with a maximum of 47W x 4. The pre-out delivers 1.5V into 10 kohm with an output impedance of 600 ohm or less. These figures match the DPX-5300M and the DPX-6021M.
