The Carrozzeria FH-P9000MD is a double-DIN main unit with CD and MiniDisc transports, an FM/AM tuner and a separate FM multiplex tuner. Pioneer's own description on the manual cover is FM文字多重内蔵マルチCD/MDコントロール DSPチューナーCD/MDアンプ, identifying the built-in FM text multiplex receiver, multi-CD and MD control, and the DSP section.
The FM multiplex tuner is a distinct section in the specification, covering 76.1 -> 89.9 MHz and using the DARC system. This carries FM text broadcast data, and the manual documents displaying FM programme information on a dedicated screen along with an automatic aerial setting specific to multiplex reception.
Both transports are specified with 44.1 kHz sampling and 16-bit linear quantisation. The CD section returns 96 dB signal-to-noise on the IHF-A network with 94 dB dynamic range across 5 -> 20,000 Hz, and the MiniDisc section 90 dB signal-to-noise with 91 dB dynamic range across 20 -> 20,000 Hz.
The audio section carries a 13-band equaliser at 50, 80, 125, 200, 315, 500, 800 Hz and 1.3, 2, 3.2, 5, 8 and 12.5 kHz, adjustable across plus or minus 12 dB. A subwoofer crossover is provided at 50, 80 or 125 Hz with a fixed 18 dB per octave slope and plus or minus 12 dB of gain. The manual documents an auto-equalising procedure, and a microphone is listed among the supplied parts for that purpose, along with a remote control and two R03 cells.
Output is rated at 22W x 4 across 50 -> 15,000 Hz at 5 percent distortion, with a maximum of 45W x 4. The pre-out reaches 2V into an output impedance of 1 kohm. At 3.0 kg excluding the cord unit this is among the heavier units recorded here.
